The third round has begun and it was a great day! Everyday is a great day when you have nothing but joy and happiness in your life. We are so overcome with encouragement and support that we sometimes forget we are going through some pretty intense stuff. We thank God everyday for the life he has given us and we know that we are facing these trials and tribulations for a reason and we will prevail.
Last week Dustin had an MRI head scan done at South Sound Radiology. As you know Dustin’s cancer isn’t traceable by blood work but by scans only. He has had his whole body scanned but nothing focusing on the head. This scan will show if anything has spread to his brain or not. We are confident that Dustin’s brain will be just fine. Dustin will find out the results tomorrow when he meets with Dr. Harris for his Chemo check-up.
The port has been a good thing for Dustin and the nurses because they are no longer fighting to get good veins for IV’s. The port isn’t as scary looking as we would have thought either. It’s just a small bump under the skin that has been a miracle. Today Dustin got to use it for his treatment and it was easier than ever.
One day down and 4 more to go… NO BIG DEAL… Dustin is a fighter and will not let this get him down. He always has great company there anyways!!
Yesterday was a night we will never forget! Both our phones went off and to our surprise we saw this amazing young soul standing proud to support his Uncle Dusty! Tayvin was allowed to shave his head. Now all 3 Doughty Men and all 3 Doughty Kids look the same! This is a great example of how overwhelmed with support and love we feel. Thank You Tayvin for being such an awesome nephew… we love you!!
Our life is full of nothing but pure blessings. We are so thankful for our family and friends during this crazy time in our life. We are reminded on a daily basis of how much we have and how truly lucky we are!!!
Thursday: February 17, 2011- Dustin had the portacath procedure done. The procedure went very well. The doctor came and talked with us before he went back for the incursion and explained what was going to happen. The port is located on the right side of his chest. This port will save Dustin from having to get IV’s every time he has treatment or blood draws.
Dustin did a great job during the procedure and recovery. He’s been taking Tylenol and icing the area and he is ready for his Bleo this week. The doctor who preformed the procedure said he would be healed enough to use the port for the first time this week!!
Thank you all for your continuing prayers and support!
The Spaghetti Feed was a moment in time we will never forget. We feel so blessed and honored to have such amazing friends and family in our life and we are forever grateful for your attendance and support. We cherish each and every one of you and without YOU the Spaghetti Feed wouldn’t have been such a great success!!
We would like to thank all of the volunteers! Without the volunteers in red none of this would have been possible! Each person had a purpose and responsibility and did such an amazing job making the benefit something to be proud of. Thank you for all for your time, your hard work, and for your support! We love you!
1, 2, 3.... GO DUSTIN!!!
The Set up of the Spaghetti Feed was a mad house. Only having 3 hours to prepare the food, decorations, and silent auction room was intense. But once again, we had the most diligent helpers in the world. Everyone pulled together to get the job done! Here are some great photos of all the wonderful hard work that went in to preparing for the feed.

The doors opened and people starting pouring in. We honestly didn’t know we knew so many people. The feeling of support and love was beyond words. We had both sides of our families and all our dearest friends. Thank you to all of you that made the long trips to come to the Benefit whether by plane or car. You helped make the day even more special. We love everyone for taking the time to attend such a spectacular event.
We would like to thank to the O’Byrnes, Doughty’s, and McClaflin’s for all their over the top hard work. These people stayed up till 3am almost every night working on all the crucial details of this organized benefit. There are so many different areas to be covered to pull off such an amazing event, all your T’s have to be crossed and your I’s have to be dotted. We thank them for their dedication and willingness to put forth such hard work and their valuable time!
Thank you To Art for standing in front of such a large crowd to read Dustin’s thank you letter!! We think you made everyone Cry!! Thank you to Brian for praying for Dustin and anointing him with the power of prayer! Both of these men (Art and Brian) are such honorable role models for us, we love our dad’s very much.
We thank everyone that emailed Libbie the 3 words of encouragement for Dustin’s video. Dustin had no idea about the 3 words and when Kai and Knox came home from the Spaghetti Feed that was the first thing he wanted to do. He was so excited to see the video Libbie made for him. We watched the video and when it came to “love” section and all his closest family and friends were on our TV screen he started crying. It was such an emotional shock for him and it was such a rewarding experience to see all the encouraging words. Thank you all for taking time out of your day to bless our family!
We would also like to thank everyone that partook in the live auction. We would like to thank Ryan DeFant, Julie DeFant, and David Danton for stepping up and auctioning off the different items up for bid. You guys were awesome and we are so thankful for you. But THANK YOU to everyone that bid on the auction items! Holy Moly! What an amazing site to see. We love you all!!
The only words to describe the spaghetti feed are LOVE, SUPPORT, and SUCCESS. We feel so LOVED by everyone that showed up to SUPPORT us and helped make the benefit such a SUCCESS.
The spaghetti feed was the most HUMBLING experience. We have no words to describe how fortunate we feel to have such an amazing support system. Thank you to everyone! We love you so much!!
The amount of money that was raised is absolutely incredible… $54,000 dollars. We are so blown away by this amount of monetary support and we are so thankful that we don’t have to worry about how we are going to pay for all these medical expenses. We are so blessed by everyone that supported and helped us in any way! Thank you all so much!! There are no words to describe how grateful we truly are!!
