When we found out Kai was pregnant we planned this “pre-baby” getaway but little did we know that life would prohibit our trip from happening. Kai got admitted to Tacoma General Hospital on March 17th (Saint Patty’s Day) and we were scheduled to fly out on March 25th 2010. Once we learned that the doctor’s were serious that Kai wouldn’t be leaving the hospital until she had the baby, we had to cancel our trip! (That was the worst news ever). But with the bad news usually comes GOOD news. We get to go on our trip now.
We know we are meant to go on this 4 day getaway because we planned this before we found out Dustin had Cancer. The dates we chose fall exactly on the weekend before his next round of Chemo. The best part about our trip is we already paid for it like over a year ago and now just get to enjoy the time we get to spend together. Last year on Kai’s birthday Dustin’s parents got her tickets to the San Diego Zoo and Kai’s parents got her tickets to SeaWorld. We are so lucky that the timing has worked out because our airefare, SeaWorld, and Zoo tickets expire on the February 1st, 2011 (Kai’s Birthday). We are going just in the knick of time!
We are hoping to let go of all our stresses and worries while away. We just want to focus on being happy and having fun.
Today, Dustin has to go in to the treatment center to get his Wednesday Bleomycin and then we will head up to the airport.
Dustin has been doing great! Day-by-Day he starts to feel better and look better. The first week after Chemo was an adjustment. He didn’t feel good at all and had a hard time eating. Last Wednesday was not a good day because when he went in for the Bleomycin the nurse couldn’t get the IV to go in the veins. They had to try 4 times to get a good vein and that resulted in Dustin getting sick at the treatment center. We are hoping that today his veins will pop right out and there will be no problems. Dustin is starting to get used to the regiment of Chemo but the Bleomycin can really take it out of him. Dustin, bless his heart, has still never complained once and is always ready to do whatever it takes.
The nurses told us when Dustin started Chemo that he would really start loose his hair on the 3rd week. So he wanted to get his head buzzed again to avoid any loose hairs falling out on our trip. Dana (Dustin’s cousin) invited us over for a BBQ last Saturday night and we had a blast, amazing food, fun games, and great people. Dana also had offered to buzz Dustin’s head again and Dustin was so excited.
People that know the Doughty’s, know that the Doughty’s love the Mayan!!! What’s not to LOVE! We love our family gatherings.
Well we are off for our trip now can wait to post some amazing pictures of our little getaway next week.
Thank you is a great word but can’t even describe how we feel about everyone that is praying, supporting, and loving our family. We are so overwhelmed with emotions and gratefulness about the Spaghetti Feed. All the amazing support and donations make us come to tears. It gives us the chills to think that people can come together and help support one another in tough times. Thank you all so much for everything. We love you all!!!
Have a great trip! Enjoy the sunny weather and the time to relax! :)
